A more inclusive way to play

Mixed Ability Squash sessions are open to everyone. What makes them so special is that disabled and non-disabled people play, learn, and progress together, enjoying the game as part of a fun, inclusive group.

Whether you’re new to squash, returning to sport or living with a disability or a health condition, you’re welcome here.

Every body belongs at Mixed Ability Squash

We know that taking the first step to try a new activity isn’t easy if you’ve faced barriers or lack confidence.

Mixed Ability Squash is here to change that.

The sessions are friendly, accessible, and fun, and are led by coaches with experience in adapting sports for different abilities. They’ll make sure everyone has access to equipment that works for them (such as larger rackets) and will explain every activity in clear, simple, and engaging language.

More than just sport

Mixed Ability Squash isn’t just about learning a new sport and staying active. It’s a way to develop confidence, connection, and a real sense of belonging.

A note for family members, carers and support workers

Got questions before attending? Feel free to reach out to your local venue; coaches are happy to answer queries, share venue and equipment info, and help make the first session a great one.

Depending on the session, parents, carers, or support workers may be able to join in too. Mixed Ability Squash is built to be flexible and welcoming, with a focus on enjoyment, dignity, and equal participation, not performance.

Frequently asked questions

What to expect from your first session

You don’t need to know all the rules or be “sporty” to join in Mixed Ability Squash. All you have to do is turn up, take part, and enjoy yourself.

Coaches will welcome you, introduce you to other players, and give you time to see the court and equipment. They’ll then help you get comfortable with the racket and ball, and guide you through a range of enjoyable activities, including rallies and mini games.

Every session’s designed to be fun and easy to follow, but if you need help or have a question, just let the coach know.

The most important thing to remember is that you can take part however you like. You can jump straight in, watch for a bit first, and take breaks whenever you need.

What should I bring?

You don’t need any of your own equipment to take part in Mixed Ability Squash. We’ll provide all the kit you need and make sure you feel happy using it.

Just wear comfortable clothes and trainers.
